Rosanne Visco Board Secretary Volunteer Rosanne first became acquainted with Hope Rising Farm after retiring from a 28-year career in the military where it had been difficult to dedicate time to her love of horses due to frequent moves and deployments overseas. As a 35-year Psychiatric Nurse, Rosanne had long since recognized the healing and therapeutic qualities horses gave to humans and hoped one day to become involved in this type of environment.
In 2020 during one of her military retired officers’ meetings at Ship Lantern Inn in Milton there happened to be guest speakers presenting on equine therapy at Hope Rising Farm in Millerton. This was exactly the chance meeting and grand opportunity Rosanne had hoped for and the end result of this meeting would become very transparent. Rosanne not only began a journey of volunteerism at the barn but under the guidance and supervision of Jackie Wikane she was able to fulfill a dream which was to ride after an absence of 25 years.
Rosanne continues to volunteer weekly and improve her horsemanship skills and describes the farm as her “happy place”. It has not only promoted her own personal healing but gave her a deep sense of appreciation for all that equines do for the many participants who ride facing multiple physical and emotional challenges.
Rosanne lives in Fishkill NY and also teaches Psychiatric Nursing and Community Health/Geriatrics as an Adjunct Professor for Pace University in Pleasantville NY and holds a Master’s in Nursing and Doctorate in Counseling
